If you’re visiting Vancouver Island, no matter what time of year, you don’t want to miss the splendour of Butchart Gardens! I’ve written about this enchanted place before (Butchart Gardens), but I hadn’t visited in the spring. This is the time of year to enjoy the cherry blossoms which range from white to pink to rose. This is also the only season when you can enjoy the earthy sweet fragrance of clusters of hyacinths everywhere. The colours are amazing – different shades of purple, violet, lavender, pink and white. Tulips. Daffodils. Hydrangea. Oh my!

One shade of purple hyacinth at Butchart Gardens.

We’ve visited gardens all over the world including England’s Cornwall district and Japan during cherry blossom season. Butchart Gardens is every bit as stunning as the best gardens in the world.

But enough talk, let me show you what you are missing!

Butchart Gardens fields of hyacinths and tulips.

Butchart Gardens has lots of benches scattered throughout the grounds so that you can enjoy the view and relax. Stop in the Japanese Garden or take a stroll out to Butchart Cove to see some sea birds and boats.

There is a restaurant for high tea if you are so inclined. On a more economical note, there is a coffee shop that sells baked goods, ice cream and cappuccino. The Blue Poppy Restaurant is also available for casual meals. The gift shop sells a variety of seeds and plants as well as all types of flower-related gifts.

There are several water features in the park to enjoy with Ross Fountain being the main attraction.

These gardens are over 120 years old and are open year-round (except Christmas Day). Tickets may be purchased online or in person. The price varies depending on the season. Gates open at 9 am. Best to get there early because it gets very busy later in the morning.

This is the first time that I noticed the basket of flowers changes with the seasons!

There is ample parking, including handicapped spaces. This is a perfect 2-3 hour visit for families. You’ll find the Gardens located at 800 Benvenuto Ave, Brentwood Bay, BC.
