Our recent trip to Tanzania was magnificent – thousands of wildebeest, towers of giraffe, parades of elephants, and dazzles of zebras. We were also fortunate to see a lot of cats – lions, leopards, cheetahs and servals. We visited the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Park. The wilderness lodges were first class and the food was hearty and tasty.

But enough talk! Sometimes a picture best paints 10,000 words so let me give you a half a million words in photos. (All photos credited to Colin Rankin Photography)

Accommodation

Our itinerary included stays at Mwamba Lodge, Tarangire National Park, Kitela Lodge, Ngorongoro Region and Lahia Tented Lodge in the Serengeti Western Corridor – each with full board and each property absolutely fabulous!

When travelling to Tanzania, you will want to visit, at a minimum, Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti Plains. Our lodges were a bit off the beaten path so as to avoid the throngs of vehicles that the Serengeti is infamous for.

We also stayed at Kahawa House in Arusha (a great place to unwind for a couple of days) and Spice Tree by Turaco in Stone Town. We spent the last 4 days of our trip in a beautiful Zanzibar sea-side resort called LUX Marijani.

We recommend that you add Zambia to your itinerary as it is quieter, charming and very different from Tanzania. Read about our Zambia adventure here.

We flew into Zambia from Toronto to begin our adventure (Air Ethiopia) and after a week in Zambia, we spent 2 weeks in Tanzania.
